Oh Dear…

Monday @ 2pm I am having a root canal. It has been 2 months in the making (I was informed of my need right before Christmas…it was not the best of presents..)

I woke up this morning, and pretty much my whole face hurts. Why do I post this? Just to complain and bathe in the waters of self-pity for an hour or so…

1 Month Left

In one month (to the day) a chapter of my life will be closing.

It’s definitely bitter sweet.

Sixteen months ago, Hailey and I (who were 3 months married at the time) agreed to start driving to Harvest York Region (HBC Markham at the time) to help the church get through some rough transitions. After some prayer, and a few godly men and women telling me it was what needed to be done, Hailey and I began driving 1 hour each way every Sunday. The following February (12 months ago) I was offering the job of Director of Worship on a part-time basis (I was still in school at the time) based on a 1-year contract, with the hope that after 1 year I would know whether or not it was where God wanted me full-time. You can read more about the details HERE then HERE then HERE then HERE.

I’ll tell you this…I had no idea it would be this; fun, challenging, stretching, rewarding, defining, emotional, or God-ordained! What can I say to sum up my time…well first this…

FINISH STRONG. I’m not done. And I want to take every opportunity that the Lord has in front of my in this last month to bring glory to His name, causing others to be inspired and awestruck at His majesty, faithfulness and sovereignty.

I serve a God who calls little people to do big things.
I serve a God of providence, one that calls me out of my sin into glory
I serve a God that even when I fail (which is often) His love extends unwaveringly
I serve a God that owns the ministry of Harvest York Region, and I look forward to getting out of the way and seeing God work without me, because if I am TRULY only a tool of a craftsman, I will be used elsewhere and a new tool will arise to meet the need.
I serve a God big enough to see the beginning and the end, yet so intimate that He knows me by name
I serve a God so loving that a sacrifice to large for comprehension was made in my place so that I could worship Him for eternity.

Why do I write this post. Well it’s with tears in my eyes, that I say…My God is a faithful God that’s plans are so perfect that 16 months ago, my finite mind would have laughed at and run from….BUT GOD…in His sovereignty called my wife and I to meet a need.

Lord let me be faithful to your calling for what’s next.
Lord let me not doubt, but run to your plans for me.
Lord let me lead with reverence, follow with patience and above all never doubt your perfect plan.

Isaiah 25:1;

O LORD, you are my God;
I will exalt you and praise your name,
for in perfect faithfulness
you have done marvelous things,
things planned long ago.

What a great service! This weekend we introduced a new song, “Glory to God, Forever” written by Steve Fee & Vicky Beeching. It’s going to be released on Fee’s next album, and honestly…this song is going to be an anthem of the church (like “How Great is Our God” – BIG!).

The whole morning went great, and people responded very well. Here’s how it all went down.

God is in Control.

Have you ever heard stories of where the church (both big “C” and little “c”) has failed. A lack of accountability that lets a pastor run off with his secretary…a church that votes in ungodly tradition instead of Elder lead decision…a family that comes 4 weeks in a row an is untouched by the body, so they move on…

Me too. That is why as I type this post, I have tears in my eyes. On Sunday, a couple that I have never met, went to the hospital to have a baby (hence why this hits close to home for me). Long story short, their baby boy died during labour. What should the church do when this happens…? I don’t know, how about this…

1) Send out a church-wide email asking people to pray for this couple and this situation
2) Hold a memorial service and invite everyone to come and show support and love on this young couple

Well, they did both these things. I wasn’t able to go, but heard reports that the church showed up huge to show support for these people. This guy wrote a song you can listen to here. Very well done.

Praise the Lord for the Church.
Praise the Lord for leaders that KNOW what to do in times of trial.
Praise the Lord that even through the most difficult of circumstances, He remains faithful
Praise the LORD. Praise the LORD.
