Weekend Review

What a great Service. I always find it crazy that when I am at my weakest, things go so well and God show up HUGE. Straight from scripture…when I am weak, HE is strong!

This week, Paul preached on the Prayer Pillar. He used a few great applications that really brought the importance of prayer and surrender home. The people were really responsive this week, and one of the cool things we did was have a time of corporate “group” prayer when everyone broke into groups of 3-5 and prayed where they were. It was sweet to hear everyone praying where they were…really illustrated that worship is more than just singing!

Here’s how it went down.

Weekend Review

This Sunday we intro’d Brenton Brown’s “Adoration.” It fit really well with the service as we are going through the 4 pillars. The offertory went really well, and intro’d/taught the song really well. It allowed for a very genuine response to the message through this song.

Overall, it was a great day. I felt extremely at peace leave the building. I believe that I did everything that I could to allow people to engage with God, and that is all I can ever ask. Praise the Lord for His provision and His faithfulness to our church.

Here’s how it went down.

Ladies and Gentleman…Mr Sam Mitchell

on thursday night I journeyed to the apple store to pick up my sister’s computer. while waiting I saw the one and only sam mitchell, coach of the toronto raptors. it wasn’t tough to spot him. while I (along with everyone else there) was sporting some jeans and a t-shirt, coach mitchell was wearing his typical pin-striped black suit complete with a pink handkerchief and sunglasses. why was he wearing sunglasses in doors…who cares! he’s sam mitchell, he can do whatever he wants.he seemed like a genuinely nice guy. some guy did ask him for a picture and he flat out said, “sorry dude, no photo’s, i’ll sign your shirt though….” straight classy.

the funniest part was how people just flipped out. i knew who he was from the second he walked in, but it took most (including sales associates or mac geniuses) a little longer to figure it out. it was amazing to over-hear people’s astonishment with this guy. the whole time I kept thinking “man, this guy is the coach of the rap’s, imagine if someone really famous came in, people would go crazzzy!”

it brings me to this conclusion. even if the world KNEW Jesus, would they still flip out in the same way…I’m going to go with no. why not…well because they’re the world…but the real question is…how would I react if I saw Jesus walk in…would I be more likely to faun over him, or would tony romo walking in be more of a moment. a challenge for sure.

thanks sam. for making me remember that Jesus is the only real celebrity, and the only one worth worshiping…

Mac Genius is GENIUS!

FACT: I love the new “Mac Genius” feature on the latest version of Itunes. While working this afternoon, I wanted to listen to music. As no playlist that I had made was readily available, I decided to scope out with new function.

I clicked on a song I wanted to listen to (Never Let Go – Crowder) and it formed a 25-song playlist based on my regular listening patterns and what songs “went with” (don’t even ask me how they know that…) the song I had selected.

Simply…Genius.

Worship in Spirit AND Truth

One of the biggest challenges I find as a worship leader (as I’m sure most do) is staying fresh. “This is the zillion-eth time i’ve sung this song, how do I connect with God again…” Here’s the answer I heard given at a conference I was at, and I cling to it.

Your singing truth. The great thing about truth, is that it never changes, and never gets old. What I really mean when I say “I’m having a hard time keeping this fresh” is “i’m having a hard time emotionally connecting with this song.” The truth of the song never changes. When we sing “Lord you are good, and your mercy endures forever….” it doesn’t lose it’s meaning, it just feels redundant.

ANSWER: Engage with each song first on a truth level, and second on an emotional level. When we sing songs declaring truth, it’s just ourselves that get in the way. I know that sounds easier than it really is, and I find it still to be one of the most difficult things while leading, but it helps me to focus on what I need to accomplish each week….engaging personally with the living God so that I can lead others into His presence.

I am so thankful that I serve a God that values and stands on TRUTH. Check this.

Romans 15: 7-8
Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God. 8For I tell you that Christ has become a servant of the Jews[a]on behalf of God’s truth, to confirm the promises made to the patriarchs

3 John 1:3-4
It gave me great joy to have some brothers come and tell about your faithfulness to the truth and how you continue to walk in the truth. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.

Psalm 25:4-5
Show me your ways, O LORD, teach me your paths; guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.

Romans 1:25

They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.

Psalm 40:10

I do not hide your righteousness in my heart; I speak of your faithfulness and salvation. I do not conceal your love and your truth from the great assembly.

John 14:6

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Today we commissioned Paul and the ministry of Harvest York Region. The turnout was SUPER encouraging. Lots of people, but more importantly, lots of people wanting to be there. I am finding that leading the people is becoming less of a task and more of a blessing. As the congregation gets to know the songs (see HERE and HERE for more info on that) they are much more responsive, and much more willing to engage in the time of praise.

I auditioned another team member today. It is a very interesting time in the life of the Worship Team. Slowly but surely we are building a strong team. It is my prayer that the Lord continues to be faithful in providing musicians that FIRST love God and SECOND love music.

P.S. My grandparents (or Nana & Papa) were at the service today. My Nana told me she reads my blog. And she wanted to comment but couldn’t figure out how to. Not only is it sweet that my grandparents read my blog, it’s sweeter that they would want to leave me a message. Nana, click HERE for instructions. I love you.

I Can See.

Well, the surgery is over, and I am still a visually-stable member of society. It’s amazing how something so nerve-racking can be such a ‘non-issue’ a mere 24 hours later. I still have some mild discomfort, but all in all, I am pretty much back to normal.

On another note. If you have plans on Sunday night….change them. You need to go to Sunday Nite Praise @ Harvest Oakville. Cool Story. 3 of my unsaved staff at Able Pools are going…thank-you Lord. Pray that it goes well. Pray that lives are changed for eternity. For more information check out HBC Oakville’s site HERE or go to my friend Joshua Seller’s blog HERE.

Busy weekend this weekend. Lots to be thankful for. God is so good to me, and for that I praise His AWESOME name.

Powerful Video

I’ve seen this video a number of times (dating back a couple of years). We used it this past Sunday during the service and the response was incredible. It amazes me how sobering it is to hear the verbal affirmation of God’s supremacy and how vibrant it (specifically this video) can be even after hearing and seeing it so many times. Be Blessed.

Introducing Mr. Laser to My Eyes

Today I had my pre-opp consultation for laser-eye surgery. To say that I am not nervous would just be untrue, so instead I’ll be blunt….I’m freak’n nervous!

As I drove home from the appointment, I was talking to my friend on the phone about it. He didn’t know that I was getting it done, so he was a little surprised. He said “I’m a little taken back by the whole thing, I mean you could go blind!”

Knowing that it is a legitimate fear helps a bit, but knowing (according to the booklet I received) that there is greater than three-times a chance of me dying from getting struck by lightening than going blind aids my insecurities.

That said, the surgery is 10am on Thursday morning. Pray that I remain calm, and trust in the Lord through the whole process. Lord Willing this time next week I will be pain free and have perfect vision.
