Last night I sat down with my wife and (for the first time ever) ordered a movie off of our digital cable box…or “On Demand” as it’s known to patrons of the service. I must say, it was fantastic. Firstly, we didn’t have to go out to get a movie, every movie ever filmed is right at our finger tips. Second, it was cheaper…$5.49..can’t go wrong with that.
So we “rented” August Rush. I had heard only good things about it, but thought it was just going to be a silly romantic-comedy that lacked plot and made up for it in over-emotional dialog. This was not the case. The movie basically is a present-day version of Oliver Twist, even having Evan’s (or “August Rush” as he changes his name) best friend in the movie named Arthur (similar to ‘the Artful Doger’).
The movie was long, but built at a very even pace, allowing for good plot development, and a desire on the viewer to want the end to come quickly, not because it was boring, but because you wanted to see everything play out.
Evan/August’s guitar was also a Gibson J-200 which is a SWEET guitar, so it was kind of cool that the film makers payed enough attention to detail to actually use quality instruments.
All in all, a good movie…as a musician it was a cool flick and a great movie to watch with my wife.
